A website is an important tool for a GP practice to provide detailed information for current and potential patients about services provided, the quality of patient care, and to interact with patients.

A website enables a GP practice to take the practice leaflet to another dimension. With unlimited space and the potential of a range of web tools, the leaflet can be completely rethought, rewritten and redesigned into an information-rich interactive service, providing much more information on the practices and the services provided.

A website can also provide:

  • online appointment booking (depends on GP IT system supplier);
  • repeat prescription ordering;
  • patients with the ability to update their details, eg change of address;
  • a newsletter to keep patients up to date with the practice, or for eg health campaigns;
  • feedback from patients — this is becoming more important for QOF points;
  • information on and links to other local health, social and community services;
  • printable patient leaflets — about the practice or about general health issues.

  • The website space is hired on a yearly basis from a web host: about £150 per year.
  • Set up a website based on your practice leaflet, work with you to update and improve the content for the website, and show you how to maintain the website: from £500.
  • Further website development and maintenance: £35 per hour.
