Tropical Trees for Life

www.treesforlife.info

Trees and forests are a essential part of the tropical environment, especially for the rural poor, providing fuel, food, animal fodder, building materials, environmental protection and many economic products such as honey, resins, dyes, etc. Trees withstand adverse weather conditions much better than other crops and can be a source of food and income in times of hardship, so act as an insurance for the rural poor.

This aim of this site is to put expert knowledge on tropical tree species selection, propagation, planting, maintenance, conservation etc, available online for the benefit of all those involved in helping the rural poor in the tropics and, of course, the rural poor themselves.

Carbon offsetting

Educating rural people how to plant, maintain and protect tree resources themselves is a low-cost way of fixing carbon and protecting delicate environments, and greatly leverages money invested. It directly helps the poor and the outcome can be of far greater benefit than the many dubious projects involving hundreds of millions of dollars channelled to big industry.

2010 is the Year of the Tree, so why not get involved in supporting a tree-based project?

Sponsorship opportunities

Sponsorship of the site is most welcome from the IT and medical technology sector to enable the large amount of information on this topic to be put online.
